acrylic on canvas, 20 x 16 inches
Divertissment is in the same style as an earlier work, Transition to Chaos. The switch to acrylic from oils allows some new paint application techniques. Extruded lines and forms were applied to the background using a pastry bag. In the earlier oil painting stiff bristle brushed and a palette knife were used, which created softer and less precise shapes. The lower pigment loading of acrylic paints makes opaque plastic shapes harder to achieve without adding a bit more white, but the high color helps the foreground stand out against the background.
