acrylic on panel, 18 h x 24 w inches
Sediments was built up in layers with different surface treatments. The surface is complex and subtle. It also evokes a feeling of age and of patina. What stories do the sediments have to tell?
Many of the fine line details were painted in using liquid pencil, a type of graphite paint that looks like pencil when burnished, but does not smudge once dry. The patterns, forms and subtle color variations suggest layers of rock and different mineral compositions laid down in striated strata. The raked textures also suggest the different morphologies of mineral structures due to their formation and internal crystal structures.
