Oil and alkyd on canvas, 12 h x 16w inches
Crimson Query is a study in red on red. Subtle variations in hue, lightness and color intensity pattern the canvas and make the reds appear more orange and blue in context. Texture and shine were also used to define motifs and create contrast. Different pigments with different spectral properties were used to create the different reds, resulting in a property called metamerism. The contrasts among the red squares will change in different lighting. The red hues and fairly deep color of the background make the blue linear pattern pop. The blue areas seem to progress across the red background as if searching for something, or forming a basic logical element in analog.
