9 x 12 inches, hand drawn using paint and archival pigmented ink on gray textured acid free paper
Occluded meanings uses the gray background provided by colored paper to define relative “lighter than” and “darker than” drawn and painted lines, shapes and geometries. A bit of a statement, like a visual sentence made of forgotten organic and mechanistic symbols begins to emerge from the grays. One of the approaches used invloves using line and marker areas that are similar to the background, but just a bit off. This creates subtleties in the drawing and gradations of contrast that allow the drawn patterns to merge in and out of the background.
